MATTIA CAPELLI

Bio
PhD student in the Socio-demographic Curriculum of the National Interest Doctoral Program in "Life Course Research" at the University of Florence. Scholarship founded by the University of Milan-Bicocca.
Passionate about social demography, inequality studies, and photography with skills in project management, data analysis, and data visualisation for demographic and socio-economic reporting.
Who I am
Born in Bologna to a French mother and an Italian father, I grew up observing two different contexts: the dynamic and complex suburb of the ville de Saint-Denis, and a quiet neighbourhood in Bologna.

While attending a technical institute during high school, I engaged closely with first and second-generation immigrant peers from Eastern Europe and North Africa, further reinforcing these observations. These early experiences shaped my academic trajectory, leading to a Bachelor’s in International Development and Cooperation and a Master’s in Local and Global Development at the University of Bologna.

As of November 2024, I am a PhD student in the socio-demographic track of the National PhD Program in Life Course Research, jointly coordinated by the University of Florence and funded by a research scholarship from the University of Milan-Bicocca, affiliated with the Department of Statistics and Quantitative Methods. My PhD project, Integration along the life course, focuses on social stratification, educational mobility, and labour market outcomes of second-generation immigrants in European countries.
